I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been asked why a business such as a VA or Freelancer needs a website… after all, isn’t an established social media presence that clearly displays information about the business and its services enough these days?
No matter what you’re led to believe, there is no doubt that websites are a very important part of your business’s online presence in today’s busy world… and here’s a few reasons why:
1. YOU OWN YOUR WEBSITE
When you create and launch your business’s website, you actually own that online platform. This means you don’t need to stress about losing your valuable content, and you can post and share information without fear of censorship or – worse – being shut down entirely as is the case with all forms of social media. Just remember that platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and Twitter are owned by somebody else (and NOT you).
If you run your whole business on Facebook and Instagram, and it crashes (which has happened more than once) then your whole business is at risk as you have no alternative digital presence (such as a website).
2. A WEBSITE POSITIONS YOU AS A PROFESSIONAL
While beautifully curated social media content is all well and good, a website gives your potential client a place to go to find ALL the information they need in order to be confident and comfortable to take the next step.
Whilst you would be crazy NOT to have a business presence on social media, the reality is that social media accounts simply don’t allow you to position yourself as a professional or an expert in quite the same way that a website does.
A website shows commitment and gives you a professional edge which builds credibility, trust and a sense of stability and security that sets you above the hobbyist and side-hustlers who are often “here today – gone tomorrow”!
Further, a website allows you to build trust and credibility by displaying authentic and positive testimonials for your potential clients to see – another huge benefit over solely operating your business on social media.
3. YOUR WEBSITE ALLOWS YOU TO SHOW OFF YOUR SERVICES (AND PRODUCTS)
When a potential client crosses your path, the first thing they will want to get clarity on is what services (and / or products) you offer. You can use a website to show off your products and services in a way that is visually appealing and easy to navigate.
This is a great way to attract potential customers and give them a taste of what you have to offer.
4. YOU CAN INCORPORATE FAQs INTO YOUR WEBSITE TO ANSWER COMMON QUESTIONS QUICKLY
With experience, you can generally anticipate the most common questions that your potential client may have in relation to your services.
By incorporating clear FAQs on your website, you can be ahead of the game by pre-empting what your clients need to know before taking the next step, and by doing this you are effectively removing any potential barriers to sales.
5. WEBSITES ARE AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
Overall, having a website is essential for any social media marketing campaign. Your website is a platform you can direct your target audience and give them access to your brand, and consistent engaging content.
It allows you to build relationships with your potential clients, increase brand awareness around your offering, and further promote your services in a way that is more personalised.
What’s even better is that there are tools we can use to track results and measure success which delivers the information we need so that we can ultimately improve and optimise our efforts
By setting up a simple service website, you are making it easier not only for yourself, but also for your potential clients to get a true sense of who you are and what services you can provide for them and their business.
